Superintendent Wayne Rodolfich

PASCAGOULA -- Jackson County supervisors declared a state of emergency today based on projected forecasts of Hurricane Gustav making landfall somewhere near New Orleans. County buildings were closed but employee work hours continued as normal.
Government workers and numerous businesses are scheduled to be off work for Labor Day, Sept. 1, regardless of emergency warnings.
Spokeswoman Debbie Anglin on Friday, Aug. 29, said Superintendent Wayne Rodofich has made no decision about dismissal of the Pascagoula School District because Hurricane Gustav is too far away to be certain of its direction once it enters warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Any announcement possibly would be made on Sunday, she said.
Anglin also said all school superintendents from Hattiesburg southward participated in a teleconference Friday afternoon with State Superintendent Hank Bounds.
"Everybody is in a wait-and-see mode right now. We just don't know," she said.
