Parents promote seat beat safety
Notable: June 12, 1989 – Birthday of Kiara Iman Pearse, who was 17 when she died Nov. 14, 2006, in a vehicle accident on U.S. 49 in Gulfport.
She was driving herself and her younger brother, Brian Jameel, to school at Harrison Central High. Jameel,15, also suffered fatal injuries when the car flipped on the highway.
Their parents, Brian and Yvette Pearse of Gulfport, started a campaign promoting seat beat safety among students. In May 2007 and this spring, the Pearses awarded four $500 scholarships to Harrison County high school graduates attending college, university or trade school.
