Colleges Reeling from Death of 2 Students

MISSISSIPPI STATE -- John Sanderson was one of two college students whose lives ended in violence this past weekend, according to news reports. Both died in unrelated shootings.

Sanderson was found dead Saturday outside the male dormitory Evans Hall at Mississippi State University in Starkville. He was 21 years old, and so are two of his suspected assailants.

Jackson residents Mason Perry James and Duntae Harvey have been charged with capital murder. Perry was charged Monday morning; Harvey turned himself later Monday and was charged. Police still are searching for a third suspect in the shooting death, according to WLBT News in Jackson.

Police in Jackson are investigating the death of Nolan Ryan Henderson III, a Jackson State University student who was killed Sunday morning, according to Fox News.

Authorities have said that Henderson, 19, was shot in the face during a pool party at the off-campus housing named Palisades Apartment.

Mother, Daughter Found Shot to Death

OCEAN SPRINGS -- Students and staff Ocean Springs Middle School have been mourning the death of 12-year-old Pieper Niolan and her mother, Jan, since the two were found dead Friday.

Pieper's father, Thomas, and Jan Niolan's husband was found unconscious near their bodies. A bottle of pills were discovered near him, and he remains in critical condition at Ocean Springs Hospital.

News reports said the mother and daughter had been shot death in their home on Oak Circle, near Magnolia Oak Elementary School.
