GULFPORT -- Family, friends and the South Mississippi community were shocked by the brutal death of 17-year-old Shakeylia Anderson on Dec. 5.

Hunters discovered Anderson's nude body Dec. 6 in woods near Mississippi 15. Law officials said she had been repeatedly raped, run over by a vehicle several times, and her body set on fire. The officials suspected her former boyfriend, Leslie Galloway III of Moss Point.

Shakeylia was a senior at Harrison Central High, where she had been a member of the school's Reserve Office Training Corps (ROTC).

Iam Sandra Anderson , Shakeylias mother.Leslie Galloway was not a former boyfriend. He told the investigator they met over the phone. He also told the investigator they got together on Thanksgiving and had consentual sex. If that were true why would he rape and murder my child. Her family didnt know him or of him until this happened. If the officials or whoever dont have facts they shouldnt assume. Thank You Sandra Anderson

He took our Shakey away from us. She will never be able to live her dreams. She had so much to live for, yet it was taken away from her by someone who brutally raped, ran over and burned her body parts then left her in the woods to be eaten by whatever preying animals that were in the woods. Our family will never forget Shakeylia or the torture she endured before her life was taken from us. She loved children, but she will never have one of her own. She wanted so much out of life. She had so many dreams, things we talked about when she visited my home during the summer months. She had so much to look forward to. Yet, it was snatched from her in a flash. Who gave him the right to take her life away from her. God is the giver of life and HE only should decide when our time is up. My prayer is again, that justice is done in earth, and in heaven. I have forgiven him, her murderer for what He took from us. The pain is still so great for Sandra and for all who loved Shakeylia. He did so many evil terrible things to her that the elder family members don't even want to talk about it. I will talk about it. I will help to be her voice and speak for Shakeylia Marie Anderson. She will live on through us, the ones who love her still.
