People across the U.S. stood in silence at 9:30 a.m. today and then bells rang out 26 times for the students and teachers killed during a shooting rampage a week ago, Dec. 14, at Sandy Hook Elememtary School in Newtown, Conn.

Funeral processions for the victims, 20 of them first graders ages 6 and 7 years old, continued today even as the country stopped for moment to remember and mourn the loss of innocence, and perhaps acknowledge that it could have happen anywhere, as has been shown elsewhere even within this week.  Gov. Daniel Malloy called for the day of rememberance.
